The Knoxville Jazz Orchestra has been offering enriching educational opportunities for area youth since 2002. In the 2022, our organization reached hundreds of young people through the following programs.
The Knoxville Jazz Youth Orchestra: an auditioned big band for high school students that rehearses on Wednesdays throughout the school year and presents six to eight annual performances
The Knoxville Jazz Middle School Band: an auditioned big band for middle school students that rehearses on Thursdays throughout the school year and presents two to three annual performances
The Knoxville Jazz Workshop: an in-depth, immersive experience focused on the fundamentals of small ensemble jazz improvisation that meets on Saturday mornings throughout the school year.
Free In-School Performance/Demonstrations: These performances are led by pianist Margherita Fava and include members of the KJO’s NXT GEN community.
Brevard Summer Jazz Camp: The Knoxville Jazz Orchestra partnered with Brevard’s acclaimed Summer Jazz Camp to offer free tuition scholarships to deserving students from East Tennessee.
